This is the turbo charged four cylinder boxer found in some Subaru WRX STIs. Notice that it doesn't resemble a Dyson in the slightest?
Sounds are as integral to my enjoyment of a racing game as graphical fidelity. Gran Turismo 6's engine sounds are beyond laughable.
EDIT:
Rumor has it that there could be a fix sometime as the team completely overhauls the way the game reproduces sounds. So, something to look forward if it's true.
Kaz said it's happening, and that it may or may not come to GT6 in an update.

That always bugged me in GT5.

Have they changed them since GT1?

Probably not!

Yeah, they have. They're still terrible though.
Gotta say though, I liked the extremely pronounced turbo sound in early GT games.

I'm staying away from any exhaust modifications in my cars. That usually makes it worse. A full racing exhaust in an STI will yield a sound similar to that of someone urinating into an empty metal can.
I mean, it was one the biggest complaints of GT5. I'm very surprised. It seems as if they didn't even attempt to fix those issues.
The Skyline may as well be Gran Turismo's masket. And they couldn't even get that straight six sounding right.

Well, if GT5 is anything to go by we can expect plenty of patches that massively improve the experience.

How are the menu layouts in GT6. My other big pet peve with Gran Turismo aside from the sound is the god awful menus, in terms of layout and consistency.

I' m assuming the sound changes will be in GT6 2.0 which I'm guessing will come out in about a year. So we have a while to wait.

I think it'd also be cool if the cars audio system worked. I know PD doesn't like putting music in the games, and all the cars sound the same, so how about some streaming Pandora?

I don't have the game and thus no experience with it, but I did find this:

Hmm. Seems easier to navigate, if not bland.

Better but still not very good. There's a start menu now they gives easy access to some stuff that you used to have to back out to get to. Track selection screens are pretty but hard to organize as far as I can tell. Finding cars for sale is a pain, they are all shown with no indication of what's premium and what's not. Oh, and the menus once you make it to the track are unchanged.

What sets the premiums apart from standards? New vs used? Quality? Interior view? Available mods? GT5 made it feel like 2 different games depending on if you were in a standard or premium.

What bugs me is that when you use the in car views, the sound gets super muffled - and I just can't race in the chase cam view.
It is laughable how much better the sounds from Forza are - but driving a car in GT is like putting on your old baseball glove...it just feels right. It isn't better than Forza, or more realistic etc...just better. Can't explain it.

The improvements come with the lack of loading screens. Running through the various in-game stores was a pain in 5. In this one you're at least moving through all that stuff at a quicker pace.

The one way to tell if a car is Premium is if it has the "Gallery" option or whatever. It's the option in between the color and buy buttons. But you have to select the car in order to see that it has it or not.

There's a custom BGM option, if that's what you mean. You just have to load up your PS3 with music, so it's kind of a pain. Don't know if it can stream from an iPod or a USB device.

Then again, the boxer engine is annoying as shit with UELs.

Same thing as GT5. The 'used' cars in GT5 were standard, there is no used car store in GT6.

That's true I suppose.
![]() 12/09/2013 at 08:30 |

Yeah, and while that helps I'd like to be able to tell from the car list. Just put a little 'P' next to it, or a star, or something. Or let me filter out the standard cars.

Agreed. Scanning through the millions of different Skylines just to find the one premium one was a pain in the ass. Same with Miatas and RX7s, and every other over-represented Japanese car in here.

I REFUSE TO ADHERE TO YOUR STANDARDS, GOOD SIR.

My biggest gripe with Gran Turismo is there reluctance to move past old dated sounds, and synthesized car sounds. The god aweful tire screech all just hurts the experience. Every Racing sim out there has better sound files. Arguably Forza sounds are the best. Change the sounds and you improve the game. Get on it!.
